I. Introduction

 

1.         Electronic mail (email) is a highly efficient form of modern communication media. Used appropriately, email provides a means to communicate across different time zones and country borders, thus facilitating educational and social contact.

2.   Exchanging email with other Internet users is generally a matter of common sense and courtesy to       pothers. However, this convenience also tempts users to experiment or take advantage of this media,           resulting in email of unwelcome types.

 

II. Unacceptable Use

 

1.         It is not acceptable to use your email account in such a way as to interfere with or disrupt network users, services, or equipment. For example, it would not be acceptable to use email to:

               *  distribute unsolicited advertising

               *  intentionally transmit or receive threatening, obscene, or harassing materials

               *  propagate computer worms or viruses

               *  make unauthorized entry to computational information, communications devices, or resources

               *  violate software copyrights and usage licensing agreements

 

III. Privacy

 

1.  Email is not guaranteed to be private. The network system administrator or designee has the right to access information stored in any user email. The network system administrator or designee may deny, revoke, or suspend specific user accounts.

2.   Violation of this policy may result in disciplinary action, the revoking of user accounts, and any appropriate legal action.

 

V. Modification of this policy

 

1.   The Giles County Board of Education reserves the right to change this policy for email services at their sole discretion and without prior notice.
