Kindergarten Newsletter Effective Learning Kindles Success Week of August 25-29, 2008 Language: We have introduced letter A, a, and the /a/ sound in words (like apple)! Please work on letter recognition, letter writing, and letter sound at home. Next week we will introduce letter B, b, and the /b/ sound in words (like ball). Reading Workbooks: Next week we will begin working in our reading workbooks. When your child brings home the workbook next weekend, please look through his/her work and practice at home. Parent support and involvement is very important to your child's success in the classroom! Math: We have introduced number 2 this week. Your child should know how to recognize 1 and 2, write 1 and 2, and count to 2. Please work on these skills at home over the weekend. Next week we will learn to recognize and write 3. Special Reminders: A big "Thank You!" to all the families who have helped us out by supplying stickers, copy paper, decorative paper, etc. We truly appreciate your help! Please keep in mind that the regular school day begins at 7:50 a.m. Children should be in the classroom by this time. If your child is late, please come into the office to sign him/her in. Tardy arrivals do accumulate and can add up to an absence. Please keep your list of scheduled party days we are sending home today. We try to stick to the scheduled days if at all possible since we know that many of you need to plan in advance in order to be able to attend your child's classroom parties. All snacks and drinks should have your child's name written on the wrapper. We are having some problems with snacks and drinks that are not labeled. Please make sure your child's things are labeled to ensure that everyone gets the right items! Please send workbook fees as soon as possible. Please send in a recent snapshot of your child if you have not yet done so (for our scrapbooks). Please be working with your child on their personal information. All kindergarten children are expected to know their full name, birthday, and address. This is an area that is checked on every report card! Please keep our magazine fundraiser in mind. Students selling 6 or more magazines by September 11 will be treated to a movie at the theater. Also remember--a $10.00 donation is equal to 1 sale. Turn-in days are September 2, 4, 9, and 11. Remember that all newsletters, class lists. and general information about our kindergarten program can be found online at www.giles.k12.tn.us/elk/ .
