Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to register your child for next year's kindergarten.We would like to take this opportunity to inform you of some of the things your child should begin working on for next year.

Your child should begin learning:
               
-to recognize his/her own first name
                -to write his/her first name appropriately
(first letter capitalized, others lower-case)

                -to identify colors (including pink and gray)

                -to identify basic shapes

                -to draw basic shapes

                -to count to 10 (or higher)

                -to recognize numbers 1-5

                -to state his/her full name

                -to state his/her age

                -to state his/her address

                -to state his/her telephone number

                -to state his/her birthday (month and day)

                -to say the alphabet

                -to identify body parts by pointing or touching

                -to use scissors appropriately.

These skills will be on the Brigance Kindergarten Screen, which all kindergarteners will take during phase-in. Knowing the above skills will provide your child with a positive introduction to kindergarten. Thank you for helping us make kindergarten a rewarding experience for your child.
